Summary: Competition is fierce among top architects from around Europe to design a new concert venue in Bergen. The shortlist includes designs from Henning Larsen Architects, Mad Vest, Nordic Office of Architecture, and Snøhetta. The project, part of the Griegkvartalet development, has a budget of £160 million. The designs will be evaluated based on criteria such as integration with the surrounding urban environment, architecture, functionality, environmental efficiency, and energy use. The winners will have the opportunity to negotiate for the design and delivery contract, with the decision to be announced in March.

Four top architectural firms are vying for the opportunity to design a landmark concert venue in the heart of Bergen. Henning Larsen Architects, Mad Vest, Nordic Office of Architecture, and Snøhetta have all submitted proposals that have been put on display for the public to view. The Norwegian Architects’ National Association is organizing the competition, which aims to create an iconic concert venue as part of the Griegkvartalet project.

The Griegkvartalet project, a planned cultural quarter development in Edvard Grieg Place, has allocated a substantial budget of £160 million to bring the vision to life. This generous funding has attracted talented architects from across Europe, all hoping to make their mark on this important project.

The shortlisted firms were all granted a sum of £48,200 each to proceed to the next phase of the competition. A feasibility study has already been conducted by Rambøll, and now the teams will be evaluated based on various criteria, including how well their designs integrate with the surrounding urban environment, the architecture and functionality of their proposals, as well as their environmental efficiency and energy use.

In addition to the honor of being chosen as the overall winner, three winning teams will also receive a cash prize of £8,040 each. This prize money, along with the recognition, will serve as an incentive for the architects to present their best work.

The final decision on the design and delivery contract will be made in March, determining which firm will have the opportunity to bring their vision to life in Bergen’s new concert venue. The winner of this prestigious contract will have the chance to leave a lasting mark on the city’s cultural landscape.
