London City Council Seeks New Architectural Firm for Police Department Building

The London City Council has recently made a number of important decisions during their latest session. One of the key decisions involves finding a new architectural firm to design a new building for the city’s police department. This decision is a result of concerns raised about the current location, an old bank facility from the 1970s, which is now too small for the growing police department and is deteriorating structurally. Additionally, the building has been reported to have issues with black mold.

Previously, plans for a new location for the police department were put on hold due to changes in council membership and the end of the previous mayor’s term. However, under the new administration of Mayor Randall Weddle, the issue resurfaced and alternative solutions were explored. One possibility discussed was the expansion of City Hall to incorporate the police station and the demolition of the current building to create more parking space. Although no specific plans or location have been announced, the hiring of an architect marks the first step in finding a suitable location for the police department and the 9-1-1 Communications Center.

In addition to the decision regarding the new police department building, the council also approved the request from the city street department to declare some equipment as surplus. These items will be auctioned off to the public, with the auction date yet to be disclosed. Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding with Sazerac, a leading alcohol conglomerate, expressing interest in being annexed into the city limits, has been postponed until next month’s meeting.

The London City Council convenes on the first Monday of each month at the London Community Center, unless it falls on a holiday, in which case the meeting is rescheduled for the following Tuesday. This ensures that important decisions and discussions can take place regularly and in a timely manner.
